We live in a time period where access to the internet and sharing content digitally is more prevalent than ever. In fact, there are over 4.8 billion social media users worldwide. (Nyst)
Of course, not everyone is sharing content daily, but with those numbers if even a fraction of social media users shared content on a regular basis, that still leaves the market oversaturated with posts. So how can you or your business stand out online in today's digital-first market?
The answer is actually more simple than you'd think - storytelling. People loooove a good story! Telling your story online is a really effective way to get people to start paying attention to your brand - especially when most of the content they're scrolling past daily is brain rot.
To make the storytelling aspect of your content stand out even more, format the story in a way that your audience can see themselves winning with you on their side. (Super important).
For instance, if you own a local bike shop you can talk about the product you offer and incorporate the local aspect of your business, why you love the community that you serve, and how your store can help your customers solve their problems (needing a new bike, a part for their bike, gear, etc.). You could even include that your staff is here to have a real, one-on-one conversation with you and are more than happy to help you out. Even better is that you could film this all as one video, and chop it up so that you have multiple videos that can be posted on your social media pages throughout the month!
Now, this doesn't mean that every post you create needs to tell a story. We love a good trendy post here-and-there and these can still remain part of your overall content strategy in order to keep things fun and fresh! But, if you feel like your content is stale, and you're not getting much engagement try out the storytelling strategy. Even better - include your staff members and even customers who would be good on camera since people are more likely to engage with content if they know the people who are featured on screen!
