Picture this: Your alarm goes off in the morning, signaling that it's time to get ready for your workday, instead of getting out of bed you decide to unlock your phone and scroll on your social media platform of choice. 20-minutes go by and at this point if you don't get out of bed you're borderline going to be late for work.

Skip ahead a few hours and now it's your lunch break. You've been chatting with clients and your co-workers for hours at this point and all you want to do is escape to a room by yourself where you can scroll your perfectly curated For-You-Page and see what's been posted since you were away.

A whole workday comes and goes, dinner has been made and eaten and now you have an hour before you need to shut the lights off and get some sleep. Instead of picking up a book, you decide to watch YouTube videos of funny cat compilations.

Does all of this scroll time on the internet mean that you are truly up-to-date on current trends on social media? The short answer is no. Just because you're chronically online doesn't mean you know about all of the current trends on social media platforms, it most likely just means you have an insane screen time, and your iPhone is notifying (lowkey judging) you to chill out on the scroll-sessions.

While funny cat videos might be gratifying to you that unfortunately doesn't mean that's what is trending on social media right now and should be posted to your audience.

So, as marketers how do we make sure we're keeping up with current trends and not just posting what we want to see? A good rule-of-thumb is to keep up with industry leaders, relevant influencers, and honestly just paying attention to your audience to see what they're reacting well to (or not reacting to at all).

By keeping up with relevant trends, you can create content that your audience will be more likely to engage with on your accounts and it shows you're in-tune with the ever-changing marketing world!
